M.I.A. x Jay-Z x J. Cole x Trey Songz x Andre 3000 x Travie McCoy x Gucci Mane x T-Pain x dead prez
Jun 15th

Not all on one song, but they all released new joints recently, which I have yet to share.
M.I.A x Jay-Z – “XXXO (Remix)”
Jay is said to have a few more of these “/\/\/\Y/\”remixes up his sleeve.
dead prez – “Far from Ova”
Nice rendition of Drake’s joint.
Statik Selektah x Drake – Bollywood Flow
Now, this is dope. Selektah took the vocals from Drake’s a capella freestyle on Westwood and made it into a track. Applaud him.
Trey Songz – “Take you Home”
Trey is set to release a new album, “Passion, Pain, and Pleasure” this September. This may be a new joint off that, but don’t quote me. I still think it’s a little early for him to come back out with another LP but I can almost guarantee that this record gets pushed back to 2011.
Ciara x Andre 3000 x Bei Maejor – “Ride Remix”
Three Stacks is on his way back like he never left.
Travie McCoy x Bruno Mars x T-Pain x Gucci Mane – “Billionaire (Remix)”
Janelle Monáe x B.o.B x Lupe Fiasco – ‘Tightrope (Wondamix)’
Jun 3rd

Janelle Monáe x B.o.B x Lupe Fiasco – ‘Tightrope (Wondamix)’
I guarantee that this is the dopest thing you’ve heard all day. Man, I was done after B.o.B’s verse and then there was Lupe, and Janelle spittin’ bars. I’m guilty of not having her new album but that will change shortly.

Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Good Dank’ Deserves an Award
Jun 1st

Really quick; I just need you to recognize how dope this song is. The beat –more like just raw music– that Wiz Khalifa tried and succeeded in flowing over is like a high from the ’60s.
The melody is played on bass guitar, with an electric guitar, an has no percussion. I honestly don’t know many other rappers that could pull off making the song as unique as this. Wiz’s flow is almost like speech in the first verse. It’s almost like he was talking while he was rapping, which gave it a tone as raw as the beat.
The second verse has a flow easier to follow. Both elements completed the song. A second verse with a flow like the first would have been the worst form of overkill possible (that rhymed). Wiz sings melodically on the hook which as a lot better than rapper-talk for eight bars.
His entire Kush x Orange Juice tape is pretty dope with different sounds to vibe to. If you didn’t get it, I suggest you get it, and get it now.
Drake x The-Dream’s ‘Shut it Down,’ Original vs Album Version
May 30th

You probably wouldn’t have known but I enjoy The-Dream’s music. I can’t listen to an entire album but he always has a good two or three joints that I really like. Yes, he’s unfairly married to Christina Milian, yes, he’s one of those guys that always have to have a fitted on no matter where he is (like, in the ocean), but he can make pretty good songs.
“Nikki,” “She Needs My Love” and “Fancy” are songs of Dream’s that don’t get skipped when they play on shuffle. Then, another song was added to my songs-of-Dream’s-that-don’t-get-skipped list; “Shut it Down.” When Dream gets on it, he smooths it all the way out.
“Shut It Down” (Original version 1)
That was the version I heard nearly two months ago. The heard the final version yesterday on iGoon’s site and notice that there were a few changes. Nothing major, but enough for me to notice and have second thoughts. When Dream gets on it he adds a certain spice that the song was missing with just Drake. “You shut that shit down!” says Dream with vigor on the first one. “You shut that thang down,” says Dream with Doug Morris’ hand on his shoulder.
“Shut It Down” (Album Version)
Then, Drake has to rap over Dream’s ad-libbing, killing all smoothness the song had before. I don’t know. Am I alone on this one? Listen to the two of them and you decide which you’d rather listen to.
